Week 1 – The Rabbit House and Japanese Translation

I started volunteering at the Rabbit House and shadowing a Japanese translator this week. The first two days were at the Rabbit House, where I helped feed the rabbits and learned how to clean litter boxes. I also helped with some other smaller tasks they needed help with, like putting price tags on products and moving boxes. On Wednesday and Thursday, I worked with a Japanese translator and learned more about how a job in translation works. He showed me the process of translating a video for a company and what standards he has to reach based on the company’s needs, like a high word count. He also taught some grammar, writing, and vocabulary. As well as language learning tips he learned or wish he had known and advice on how to approach college academics and what opportunities are helpful. On Friday, I was back at the Rabbit House. On Fridays, they clean cages, so I helped with that. I cleaned a lot of cages and got to pet some new, super cute and tiny three-week-old bunnies.
