Team security, managing, podcast, and more

Hi everyone! I am posting early so I can have a rest day tomorrow. (Just kidding. I never take a break. Don’t be like me, please.)

This week something really “exciting” happened. We suspected that there is a mole in our team. One night, when I was posting our daily schedule, we found out that someone changed our Instagram password. We stayed up until three in the morning tracking who they are and continued the next day. This emergency taught us the importance of security and that being cautious is sometimes just as important as trusting our teammates.

Since our founder is gone, I have taken over some tasks from the manager because she currently has a lot on her plate. I have been posting a daily schedule for every team and communicating with other directors more frequently. I made a table system to keep track of whose posts are published because someone accidentally deleted a post that has the same cover as another post.

We recorded a podcast episode about cancel culture (well, we recorded twice because we weren’t our best selves the first time). How is it effective? How is it harmful? What about free speech? Can we separate a person and their works? Watch our second episode on COVID-19 and racism here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK2myWMsI2E.

We reached out to our instructors from Kenyon and they donated and advertised for us on social media. I couldn’t believe that I am still in touch with so many wonderful people from Kenyon. As I gained more experience in critical writing, I also rethought how to make a living as a writer and explored new career possibilities in the literary field.

I am in the process of getting a new I-20 (which an international student needs to stay in the U.S.). I have been emailing with the international advisor at Kenyon.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I just listened to your “COVID-19 & Racism” podcast and I really liked how Ethan brought up a way for us to do our part- like staying away from the WIC Shelf Labels so that the products are available for the people in our community that need it the most. As a listener, it seemed very slow but that might be from you guys doing the podcast remotely. I think that it is so cool for young adults to share and capture the zeitgeist of 2020 in a recording. However, there were moments that I wish there was a debate aspect of it- I don’t know if that makes any sense but I’ll try to explain. For example, you all were in agreement about the importance of raising minimum wage but then moved on from the subject. I would’ve enjoyed hearing you guys debate about what impact raising the minimum wage would have on small businesses because, as it was noted at the end, small businesses are struggling right now, as it is, and it is important for the community to support local. I loved hearing about what people had to say from other areas of the United States because it is a whole different culture than what mine is. Anyways, good job and keep it up!

  2. Thank you so much! I shared your message with my podcast team, and we all found it very helpful. We just started recording, and we have a lot to learn. We will definitely implement your suggestions in our next recordings. This week we will discuss how politicians are taking advantage of this pandemic, so strengthening the debate aspect of it would definitely be interesting. I understand how the episode can feel slow — it probably does relate to the fact that we are doing it remotely.

(By the way, I couldn’t open your last blog post — it gave me an error.)

    • Hmm… weird. I see what you mean. I just went to view it from the Dashboard and it gave me an error. I’ll ask Dr. Urbano. Anyways, you should be able to read it on the main page.
