Mr. Levinson spends his time between different companies one of them being specialty land and cattle. Which is his farm business they used to have around 200 cows but now around 60-70. He has 2 employees that manage the farm for him. On Tuesday we got to go down to farm and he showed me around the place as-well showing how he operates this business like making sure all the equipment is ready to go and has the necessary maintenance down as well as how he pays the expenses/ Income and for this business.
My first week was At STR Technologies which is a MSP which stands for managed service provider. STR supplies IT to company and manages it for them. during the first week I met Todd Rochleau the co-owner of the company. I got to sit in on team meetings with the employees of business . I also got to listen to a job interview. My favorite part was when I got to listen into a FTA which stand for First Time appointment which they get from making cold calls. Mr Levinson told that the goal in those meeting isn’t necessarily to sell them something it is to just build a relationship with the potential client. Networking is a very important skill. I also learned that organization is very important to be able to run a business smooth effectively.
I started volunteering at the Rabbit House and shadowing a Japanese translator this week. The first two days were at the Rabbit House, where I helped feed the rabbits and learned how to clean litter boxes. I also helped with some other smaller tasks they needed help with, like putting price tags on products and moving boxes. On Wednesday and Thursday, I worked with a Japanese translator and learned more about how a job in translation works. He showed me the process of translating a video for a company and what standards he has to reach based on the company’s needs, like a high word count. He also taught some grammar, writing, and vocabulary. As well as language learning tips he learned or wish he had known and advice on how to approach college academics and what opportunities are helpful. On Friday, I was back at the Rabbit House. On Fridays, they clean cages, so I helped with that. I cleaned a lot of cages and got to pet some new, super cute and tiny three-week-old bunnies.
For my Senior Project I will be shadowing 3 different places.
1. STR Technologies(IT, Cybersecurity Company)
2. Cardinals Front Office(Cardinals baseball team)
3. HNS Sports Group( Manages and hosts PGA Events in the St.Louis area)
At each of these places i will be shadowing one person being Alex Levinson (STR Technologies), Mike Whittle(Cardinals), Maggie Kehoe(HNS Sports group. I decided to focus my project around getting in experience in the Sport business and Sports management fields. This is what I am going to major in college. I look forward to sharing my experiences
During my senior project, I will be shadowing a K9 Unit Officer- observing trainings, a chiropractor, and learning selling techniques from a supplement advisor. I will attend a police academy where I will learn how to respond to certain situations, court sit-in’s and I will be assisting in a nursing home. Overall, I hope to explore to help me narrow down my career paths post college.
For my senior project, I will be going to a few different places. The first two weeks I will spend at Chesterfield Academy as a teacher assistant. The two weeks following that, I will serve as a teacher assistant at Bonhomme Preschool. For one week I will be shadowing in OT at Mercy hospital for both pediatrics and adults. I will also shadow a child therapist at Mercy. For the final week I will be volunteering at The Rabbit House.
I will be shadowing a freelance Japanese translator who works on online dramas and videos. I will also be volunteering at two animal shelters: The Rabbit House and a cat cafe. I will be helping take care of the animals and gaining work experience at the cat cafe. The main focus of my project follows the translation job because that is what I will be studying in college.
IT IS THE FINAL DAY!!!! AHHHHHH!!!! Here’s how my final day of senior projects was spent. Wednesdays are usually my quietest day at the museum, so there wasn’t a whole lot that I absoulutely had to go do. I started off my day by helping put together the school bus crafts. They are all cut out, but I put wheels on each and punched holes in the others that we did not have enough wheels for. It may sound boring, but I found it enjoyable because it meant I got to listen to my Art Donaldson from “Challengers” playlist, which, not so humble brag, is fantastic. After that, at around 11:00, I got to go on a volunteer’s practice tour. Her name is Beth and we had met briefly before. Her tour was really good and she did not seem nervous or like it was her first time at all, she is already a pro! Then I had my lunchbreak and finished my project presentation slideshow. Then I went back to the busses. I didn’t finish it, but a lot got done! In total, I spent about 5 hours working on those busses. I NEVER WANT TO SEE A BUS AGAIN. Just kidding, but I was happy it was over. Before I left, and I thanked Kat for being such a good host and organizing everything for me. It was a little bittersweet as I walked out and there were even a few tears (or maybe just water) in my eyes. As I got into my mom’s car, I played “I Had the Time of My Life” from the “Dirty Dancing” movie. I am currently sitting on the couch with my hair dye in! I am very excited to get to watch presentations and present!
