Makerspace at the Fulton School
This is my blog post for Makerspace. I made many things in the duration of this week, but I decided to research laser cutters. Laser cutters cut through wood with a highly concentrated laser. The laser is made in a chamber with mirrors on all sides, there is Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the chamber. When electricity is flown through the chamber, the CO2 molecules create light. The light hits the mirrors and makes more CO2 molecules light up. When a hole is introduced, the light comes out. There is glass in front of the hole that is usually red, this makes the laser red. A laser cutter has a very powerful laser. the light goes down a pipe and hits an angled mirror and goes down onto a lense then to the wood.
The Laser is attached to a belt system, this allows it to make complicated shapes. I have used this for coasters, and for a stand for a computer called a raspberry pi. This in-room has been fun, and informational, I had many more ideas that I couldn’t do, and I would gladly do this again.
